About Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus
Bob LeVitus, often referred to as “Dr. Mac,” is considered one of the world’s leading authorities on the Macintosh and Mac OS X and has been one of the Mac community’s most trusted gurus for almost twenty years. He’s known for his trademark humorous style and unerring ability to translate “techie” jargon into usable and fun advice for regular folks.
A prolific author, I've written or co-written 48 popular computer books which have sold more than two million copies worldwide in at least a dozen languages. My most recent titles include: GarageBand For Dummies, Mac OS X Tiger For Dummies, Dr. Mac: The OS X Files, (or, How to Become a Mac OS X 10.3 Panther Power User), all for Wiley Publishing, and The Little iTunes Book: 3d Edition, and The Little iDVD Book: 2nd Edition for Peachpit Press.
I am currently a columnist for the Houston Chronicle, and have been since 1996, penning the popular Dr. Mac column every Tuesday. I'm also a columnist for The Mac Observer, one of my favorite Mac news and opinion sites.
My work has been published in more than a dozen computer magazines over the past eighteen years, including: a three-year stint as Editor-in-Chief of the irreverent and unpredictable MACazine; four different columns in MacUser magazine—Beating the System, Personal Best, Game Room , and the Help Folder (with Andy Ihnatko, and later, Chris Breen). Though I'm better known for my writing, I've also dabbled in broadcasting with a radio show (Inside Mac Radio, CNET Radio, 2001-2002) and a television series (Mac Today, Syndicated, 1992–1993).
I love speaking at Mac user group meetings and trade shows and have presented more than 200 seminars, workshops, and conference sessions in the U.S. and abroad, including keynote addresses in three countries. (I also won the Macworld Expo MacJeopardy World Championship three times before retiring my crown.)
Prior to giving my life over to computers, I worked in advertising, producing television commercials, radio spots, and print ads for Kresser & Robbins and SelecTV in Los Angeles. I earned a B.S. degree in Marketing from California State University (and that's no BS!)
I now live in central Texas with my wife, kids, and a plethora of pets that currently includes a Welsh Springer Spaniel (Duncan), a bearded dragon (Longhorn), and a Quaker parrot (Jobi).
